About me

me

My name is Kwame. I am a digital architect / artist / researcher / entrepreneur / human.

This place stores a compilation of a few of my thoughts and projects.

As a curious being I stray a lot and spend a lot of time thinking about the mechanics of the world I navigate in. In these past 3 decades of human form: Roughly, I spent the first 10 years trying to understand my surroundings, the second 10 years trying to understand women and the last decade making sense of it all.

Whilst working I write about what interests me at the time: point ball pen on desk, faceted identity, mobile augmented reality, Amy is looking beautiful today, open source business models, tactical solutions for the english media industry, social networking apps and the return of the broadcast era...

Most of these themes serve the purpose of satisfying my mechanical curiosity but ultimately as a very pragmatic being, they yield projects/products/services that can then be tested with other participants, with you.

me

My focus is on cross-platform products/services that catalyze human participation, celebration and ultimately, touch. As narrative based beings, there is nothing like meeting up and exchanging stories.

Lately I have shifted my energy towards two major themes: Political science, direct democracy and its relationship to individual and community technologic empowerment and second, Digital Altruism. But still, I do stray a lot.

history

I studied at Faculdade de Belas Artes in Lisbon, delved into Digital Media Arts at Berlin's Hochshule der Kunst and Sociable Media at the MIT where I immersed myself in research on Augmented reality and interpersonal behaviour. In all this I have always travelled the world researching how people communicate and use digital services services to do so.

My focus has been in how individuals manage, adapt to and grow their identity mediated by technology. For those of you who don't know what that means, think of me as a person who understands social beings and technology, and makes the most of it.

(...) I was in academia for a few years, all the while roaming the world.

In 2005 I joined Fjord as a Service Design Leader where I created digital services for some of the biggest Communication and Media corporations on earth. Nokia, Orange, BBC, Yahoo!, Swisscom, T-Mobile... I helped Fjord grow from a few individuals to a major power in digital service design consultancy.

In 2008 I decided to delve deeper into the Media industry, I co-founded Prigenius, a digital services incubator which used as a vehicle Telecom Express. I was given access to News International, Associate Press... ITV, Guardian... and a few other media groups. I got a very thorough understanding of the Anglo Saxon media industry and how it monetises its properties/brands. It became exciting to create and incubate solutions for how print, web and mobile, working together, can maximize profits for a particular group.

Recently I have acquired a position within a music media group, the idea being to get back to my music roots (I while ago I co-founded a very successful Portuguese record label called Enchufada: if you like to move your booty, it's for you).

I am currently developing my own ventures.

I divide my time between London, Lisbon and Berlin.

If you are getting in touch about consulting, know this: I am mostly interested in driving project-centered workshops for large corporations. My aim is to understand and drive behavioural change at a user level and in doing so induce change at the organizational level.

If you are getting in touch about a good time: know that I am interested in surfing, yoga, polo (with horses, not men in speedos), sailing and urban golf.
